The next installment in my Aesthetics monthly is going down tonight featuring two of Pittsburgh's top talents, Ratana and Preslav. A veteran DJ of the Pittsburgh scene, Ratana has and continues to make huge contributions to Pittsburgh's musical landscape, through involvement with the Technoir Audio label, a unique, crowd pleasing DJ style, and an increasing buzz around his original and collaborative productions.

As engineer and co owner of Machine Age Studios, Preslav has proved himeself to be one of the most dedicated and ambitious DJ/Producers in the Pittsburgh scene. Having teamed up with production partner Ratana, the boys are hard at work, crafting a unique style of hard edged, yet deep, techno influenced drum n' bass that immediately began to turn a few heads in the international drum n bass community.

Come down to Z-Lounge tonight and witness two guys that are sure to be marking their place on map very shortly. In addition Pittsburgh favorites JTS, and myself, Depth One, will be warming the night up.

Dissizit x Slick Time Lapse

Peep this hot time lapse from Slick and the Dissizit crew. Slick is definitely a beast with the cans. The desert camo fill on this piece is sick, this is the first time I've seen someone freak that. Click here for Slicks artist page, and here for the Dissizit Clothing page. Dissizit is serving up some dope gear for spring summer, here's a small sample below.

Submerged - DOA Interview

TheDogs On Acid crew have just completed a great interview of stateside DNB pioneer Submerged. Having formed the Ohm Resistance label in the year 2000, Kurt Gluck, a.k.a Submerged, has undoubtedly been a driving force behind the progression of North American Drum n' Bass. Interviewer Mary Morris drops the commonplace Q&A format and presents the piece in a vein that is much more similar to a short biography, making for a considerably more interesting and revealing read.

To read the interview click the picture above or simply click here.

N.phect & Diz:play split.

It appears that the sibling, production duo of N.Phect and Diz:play have parted ways. Collaboration work between the two has become difficult since N.Phect's recent move to Berlin, and each individual has seen growing success with their solo material, so all team efforts between the two have been halted. Here's the press release in what I believe are N.Phect's own words:

In the future, do not expect N.phect & Dizplay work together for an unknown period time.

Over the last year – since N.phect moved house to Berlin in August 2006 – N.phect & Dizplay couldn’t manage to work together and it became obvious that each artist was going to have successful solo projects to work on. This tendency became stronger in 2007 so at this point, we announce our split as producers and dj-wise. We might work together on a tune, but at this moment, this is not included to the artists’ plans.

This split is nothing personal, instead related to the complicated setup caused by living in two different cities.

The website www.neurocode.de will continue as Dizplay’s blog, where you still get high-grade information about releases, gigs & his booking contact.

N.phect’s website is www.myspace.com/nphect, for bookings please get in touch with booking.nphect@googlemail.com

Christian Hosoi & Mark Gonzalez Interview

Part 1

Part 2

No one can deny the influence these two guys have had on skateboarding. Even though Hosoi was just recently released from prison for drug charges, along with Gonzalez, they each hold over 20 years in the game. Hosoi was my man when I was little, dude blasted out of ramps like no other. Its good to see him back out and doing his thing.

Psidream Interview

The heads over at drumnandbass.de have just posted an in depth interview with Vancouver badman Psidream. Psidream's profile has steadily risen since his first release on Nerve back in 2002 and, he currently stands as one of the most prolific producers in the scene today. From the deep and moody, to the dark and nasty, Psidream's production continually improves and never fails to stay on point.

To read the interview click the picture above or just click here.
Also be sure to check Psidream's myspace for forthcoming audio, which includes bits from Psidream and Pacific's soon to be launched "Nightfall" label.

Audio - Designed for War EP - Freak 0??

Due to the fact that one of the tunes planned for the release was leaked, it appears that Audio's upcoming "Designed For War" EP has officially been delayed. Audio made the announcement himself earlier this week on the Freak forum. No details were shared as to what tune was leaked but, the EP was originally planned to look like this:

1. Audio - Delusional / 2. Audio - Bad Seed
3. Audio & Panacea - Designed For War / 4. Audio - Fallout

This is poor news, Audio has been on an absolute tear since going solo and has undoubtedly been delivering the damage, one after another. New info regarding the EP will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

Break - Not Enough / Dose - Words of Wisdom - Revolution 013

The Revolution camp just dropped a press release for their latest 12" offering.

"The mighty Break returns to the Revolution fold for his third release on the label!! With the sounds of Survival and Alter:Native still ringing in everyone’s ears, this 12” promises to be another top draw selection. On the flip we introduce New Zealand-based Dose , a producer who you’ll be hearing a whole lot more from after the Revolution stamp of approval.

“Not Enough” combines the unmistakable funk that Break does so well with some filthy basslines and devilish hooks. Subtle jazz elements, vox-stabs and razor sharp beats explain why this has been a firm favourite with the likes of Flight, Fierce, Calyx & D-Bridge .

Christchurch resident Dose comes with some next-level shizzle on “Words Of Wisdom”. Bursting with tech-fuelled energy and twisted up bass-hooks, this track just fires along from start to finish. As per usual you can trust Lucky Devil Music to be at the forefront of the best new music out there.
