FUZZ! - TEEBEE - 3/24

In just a little over a week, Teebee of everyone's favorite label "Subtitles" will be hitting the stage of our beloved BBT here in Pittsburgh. It goes without saying that this is not to be missed for any head within three hours of Pittsburgh. This is just a quick promo post, lookout for pics and an event review following the show.

Phace & Misanthrop - From Deep Space LP - Neosignal

Thank you, Phace and Misanthrop for delivering this amazing LP. You have re-inspired a 10 - plus year vet of the scene, to get off my ass and start contributing in larger ways to both my local scene, and the scene at large. As evidenced by my lack of posts these last two years, my personal interest in Drum n' Bass had definitely waned. My motivation to keep up on new releases and spread the word on forthcoming heat via this blog had all but disappeared. When I saw that "From Deep Space" was forthcoming, from Khal over at , I immediately pre-ordered the CD from Juno and have been nothing but enthralled with the sonic freshness that Phace & Misanthrop delivered with the album. This release when combined with the forthcoming Noisia, and Mayhem LPs have got me really excited about Drum n' Bass again. If you haven't copped "From Deep Space" yet, get out there and get it now, it's an album that no DNB head should overlook.

Crowd Shot

What a fucking night this one was! Only on the biggest Fuzz! event of the year, does the night start with a power outage. The only block in the city of Pittsburgh with no power had to be the one where our venue resides. Thankfully Duquesne Light got shit back on by 11pm, and the festivities began as scheduled. The Fuzz crew really outdid themselves this time around, by securing the most ridiculous soundsystem that I've had the pleasure to listen to. This setup was fucking mean! Bottles in the cooler were shaking, old school aluminum cigarette ads were rattling, and bass vibrations could be felt from front to back. Kicking off the night were Fuzz residents JTS and Sean Kirby, warming things up with a nice selection of liquid funk and dubwise rollers, providing the perfect setup for the man of the evening, LTJ Bukem and parter MC Conrad. Its a rare occasion to check an act this renowned in the intimate, 100 capacity venue, that is our beloved BBT, so heads were definitely out in full, and the Progession Sessions surely pleased all in attendance. Playing a smooth selection of slick rollers, LTJ kept it moving with soulful tunes that still remained focused on the dancefloor, it was good to see LTJ playing all dubplates and vinyl, as most DJs of his stature have left that behind. Conrad kept the crowd hyped and at moments had lighters in the air, and calling for the tasteful rewind every now and then. All in all, the night was banger and was nearly pulled off without a hitch. Big ups to the Fuzz crew for stepping up and getting this done.

LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad - FUZZ 10/8/08

This is absoulutely massive. Pre-sale tickets for this show are available for $15 by sending payment via paypal to absolutpaypal@yahoo.com or by purchasing a presale ticket from a FUZZ resident. Capacity at the BBT is extremely limited, so don't surprised if there's no entry at the door. Stop slackin' and grab a pre-sale to what is sure to be one of the largest FUZZ! events of the year.

C4C vs Random Movement

This event has already past, I'm just throwing it up for archival reasons.

Take loooong shits.....

After a full year hiatus. Strengthdnb will be back in action shortly. As I get back in the groove of things, I'll post at least once a week, with increasing frequency as time progresses. Looking back on the work I've done this blog has a lot potential, so excuse me while I wipe, flush, and get back to business. Ya heard!

MSTRKRFT vs DIESELBOY

This has positively been one of the hottest weeks for electronic music in Pittsburgh for some time. First, on Halloween night, Canadian electro outfit MSTRKRFT, came through Carnegie Mellon University to rock it out for the holiday. The sound system at CMU was absolutely ridiculous, the bass was hitting so hard it felt like the vibrations were about to lift you off the floor. The floor was literally shaking from all that were in attendance and the effect was almost like a trampoline at times. Many were looking forward to the show, and MSTRKRFT definitely came correct, surely living up to hype that surrounds the duo.

The following night, western PA native, current NYC resident, Dieselboy, came through the new monthly Tokyo, to showcase his world renowned mixing talent. Dieselboy has always been an impressive DJ to catch live, his mixing skills and programming have always been top notch, and last night was no exception. The only drawback to the evening was a sound system that was probably only running at 50%. Unlike the MSTRKRFT show there was no bass to be felt, unless you stood inches from the speakers. Its truly disappointing to hear a Drum n' Bass set with hardly any bass, but that aside the night was definitely a banger. Props to the Tokyo crew for putting on a quality monthly event that Pittsburgh desperately needs.

Freak Recordings MP3 Shop, Now Open!

In a huge announcement, the Freak Recordings camp have just opened up their own MP3 webshop. This is the only place you'll be able to get Freak releases in 320kbps, so definitely keep that page marked. With forthcoming releases including Audio's massive "To The Edge Of Reason" LP, this shop provides a great alternative to those who aren't so willing to shell out the bucks for the vinyl, or wait for infrequent CD releases. It's good to see that Freak took this into their own hands, instead of relying on a site like Beatport. This allows them to cater their MP3 shop directly to the tastes of their fanbase, allowing for more special releases, exclusives, and re-issues.

Audio - To The Edge Of Reason LP - Tracklist Announced

Fresh off the heels of the "Designed for War" EP, recently released on Freak Recordings, the Tech Freaks crew have just announced the full tracklist for Audio's forthcoming "To the Edge of Reason" LP. The only track available for listening right now is "Exposed", which can be heard on the Tech Freaks myspace page. Just click the links I've provided and you'll be taken right there. No doubt about it, this LP is going to be fucking huge.

Dieselboy @ Tokyo - Club Diesel Pittsburgh -11/01/07

Hometown hero Dieselboy is making a return to the 'burgh on November 11, to grace the stages at the new Tokyo club night, which goes down the first Thursday of each month at Club Diesel, right in the heart of Pitsburgh's South Side. Its been a long time since we've had a monthly event with the ambition of Tokyo in Pittsburgh, so this is something that heads really need to come out and support. I'll definitely be in attendance at this event, so expect pictures after the jump.
