MSTRKRFT vs DIESELBOY

This has positively been one of the hottest weeks for electronic music in Pittsburgh for some time. First, on Halloween night, Canadian electro outfit MSTRKRFT, came through Carnegie Mellon University to rock it out for the holiday. The sound system at CMU was absolutely ridiculous, the bass was hitting so hard it felt like the vibrations were about to lift you off the floor. The floor was literally shaking from all that were in attendance and the effect was almost like a trampoline at times. Many were looking forward to the show, and MSTRKRFT definitely came correct, surely living up to hype that surrounds the duo.

The following night, western PA native, current NYC resident, Dieselboy, came through the new monthly Tokyo, to showcase his world renowned mixing talent. Dieselboy has always been an impressive DJ to catch live, his mixing skills and programming have always been top notch, and last night was no exception. The only drawback to the evening was a sound system that was probably only running at 50%. Unlike the MSTRKRFT show there was no bass to be felt, unless you stood inches from the speakers. Its truly disappointing to hear a Drum n' Bass set with hardly any bass, but that aside the night was definitely a banger. Props to the Tokyo crew for putting on a quality monthly event that Pittsburgh desperately needs.
